Digitalization of sports and recreational areas

Better information for refurbishment and day-to-day management
Planning to modernise a sports hall, expand a leisure facility or repair a spectator stand? Good decisions start with understanding the existing conditions. AuditAir combines 3D laser scanning with drone surveys where needed to provide data for designers, facility managers and investment planning.
Where digitisation helps
Refurbishment and expansion: Modernising a sports venue means connecting a new proposal to what already exists. Surveying the terrain, buildings, routes and accessible structures gives the designer a current foundation. Terrestrial 3D laser scanning is used where building dimensions and details matter; aerial capture adds an overview of larger outdoor areas. The scope is tailored to the proposed refurbishment, extension of facilities or change of use.
Depending on the brief, we deliver a point cloud, terrain model, orthomosaic or processed 3D model. Teams can assess spatial relationships, access routes and connections between different parts of the venue. Current information helps designers coordinate with operators and contractors before work begins. Requirements relating to sports regulations, capacity or safety remain the responsibility of the relevant specialists; our data gives them a common basis for design and assessment.
Facility management: At golf courses, training grounds and large recreation sites, terrain shape influences maintenance and improvement planning. Aerial capture, supplemented where necessary by ground-based surveying, provides an overview of surfaces, elevation relationships and selected structures. Before collecting data, we establish which areas must be captured and the level of detail required. Vegetation and other obstructions that limit visibility of the surface are taken into account.
The results can support earthworks planning, access arrangements, area inventories or discussions with a drainage designer. Maps and models show both the location of a problem and its surroundings. Terrain geometry alone, however, does not establish the condition of drainage infrastructure or the cause of waterlogging; further information is needed. We provide a spatial reference that helps refine the brief, focus site visits and prepare additional surveys or specialist assessments.
Roof and façade maintenance: Operators need to know which roofs, façades and ancillary buildings warrant closer attention. Visual capture documents accessible surfaces of halls, stands and other structures from viewpoints often missing in a routine inspection. Work is planned around visitors, operating schedules and safe access. We focus on specific locations identified in the brief by the facility manager or technical specialist.
Organised images and overview views support maintenance planning, repair specifications and comparison of conditions after work. Managers can show each contractor the same detail without repeatedly explaining its location. Photographic documentation supports decisions but does not replace statutory equipment inspections or assessments of building safety and structural capacity. Where the project also needs accurate geometry for design, the visual inspection can be supplemented by a separately agreed 3D survey.
Presenting proposals: Discussions with investors, designers or event organisers often require an explanation of the whole venue remotely. An interactive 3D model and 360° tour communicate the location of buildings, access routes and spatial relationships more clearly than disconnected photographs. Depending on the purpose, we prepare a public presentation or material for working discussions. The operator agrees which areas are shown and how the information is shared.
The output helps participants orient themselves within the same space and identify particular locations. It supports early event planning, presentation of the venue's facilities and consultation on proposed alterations. A visual tour is not automatically a measurement tool or an approved operating plan; required functions and technical outputs are established in the brief. Clients receive a presentation designed around a specific decision, which can also reuse information collected during a technical survey.
Plant rooms and wellness facilities: A functioning pool, wellness centre or sports hall depends on technical spaces that visitors rarely see. When replacing equipment or modifying services, designers need the actual room dimensions, access routes and positions of visible components. Terrestrial 3D laser scanning documents accessible plant rooms and associated facilities. Photographs add equipment identification and details that geometry alone cannot explain. We schedule capture around access arrangements and the facility's operating programme.
A point cloud and, where specified, CAD drawings or a 3D model support equipment replacement planning and coordination between disciplines. An annotated virtual walkthrough can help facility managers and service technicians prepare before visiting. We distinguish concealed services from captured elements and agree additional checks with the designer. The outputs provide an up-to-date spatial reference for planning shutdowns, equipment access and related building alterations. The processing scope follows the specific investment, giving your team the information needed for its preparation.
Construction progress documentation: When refurbishing a grandstand, building support facilities or upgrading a playing field, investors and operators need to see how work is progressing. Repeat capture at agreed stages creates a record that can be revisited after structures are covered. We select aerial views, ground-level photographs, 360° walkthroughs and any required 3D surveys around the project team's questions. Capture dates follow key milestones and site access, rather than a calendar alone.
Organised records support coordination meetings, contractor communication and preparation for handover. Where conditions allow, we maintain comparable capture coverage between stages and date each deliverable. The project team can locate the recorded condition of a specific area without searching through unrelated photographs. Required accuracy and comparison methods are agreed in advance: visual records and detailed geometric surveys serve different purposes. After completion, selected outputs can remain useful for the ongoing management and maintenance of the sports facility.
Deliverables tailored to their purpose
A point cloud, 3D model, drawing set or photographic record is useful when your team can work with it. That is why we agree on the scope, required accuracy, formats and site access in advance. We coordinate the survey with facility operations and visitor movements.
